Introductions and Updates

It is nice to be back writing to you again!  If you are a new reader, welcome, I am happy to meet you!  For those I have known for a while, thank you for returning for another discussion!  Life happens and I am grateful for those who stay with me through it all.

For this article, I would like to share a little bit about why Etiquette and Communication is key for me.  I will also give you a preview of the plan to end this year and build up for 2024.  We are in the count down of 2023, so it seems like a good time to re-introduce me.

I am a born and raised Houstonian.  I have lived from Alief, to Clear Lake, The Galleria Area, Memorial Park, and currently I reside in the North part of the city.  My undergraduate degree is from The University of Houston in Communication Disorders.  My Master of Science is from The University of Texas, Dallas.  I am an Audiologist, trained by some of the pioneers in the field of Cochlear Implants and Aural Habilitation.  One of my passions was reviewing methods of communication and evaluating how they supported children with hearing loss to communicate in a hearing world.  I also hold a minor in Psychology and from this I learned that the ability to communicate in a way a person feels natural creates confidence and a feeling of security as they move about the world. My full CV on the webpage shortly. My career path has always followed a road of communication skills and improving the quality of life for those around me.

Teaching, public speaking, raising awareness, making another person’s life better, this is why I am in the world.  A moment when I can make eye contact, and listen to what another person has to say, and hear the intention, not just the words, that is my passion.  What I do is to work with people so they can he heard, and they can confidently navigate the world in all the chaos of communication.  I do this by using the skills I learned during my graduate education in Communication Disorders, discussing my client’s communication concerns and then sharing tactics that have proven to be successful for others.

I am passionate about etiquette and manners.  It is my strong belief that a foundation of social skills and fundamental behavioral practices can assist a person to experience a confidence in life.  I start most of my speaking engagements reviewing that etiquette, as Emily Post wrote, is an awareness of the social situation you are in and behaving in a manner that is consistent with those around you.  Manners are regional.  The way my husband’s family In New York socially interacts is quite different from how my world in Houston, Texas works.  It is the understanding and acceptance of these behaviors or manners that allows one to move easily within social situations.

So, what is happening the rest of this year?  As some of you know, I choose to end my relationship with a franchise model of child etiquette programs.  Because of this, I have had to change the way I can work for a brief period.  This year, I have had the pleasure of speaking to The Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce, The American Society of Interior Designers, as well as conducting private workshops for private industry companies in the insurance industry, educational leadership, and private schools.  I meet with private clients and private groups to create a custom etiquette and communication program that addresses their areas of concern.

The events for November and December will be published on my web page with links to sign up starting the week of October 30, 2023.  I have plans for a small group to prepare for 2024. This will be a multi-part group designed to meet four times in 2024 and provide a supportive accountability platform from which attendees can build their version of a successful 2024.

Lot of workshops will be on the page for Teens and Young Adults.  Please remember to sign up early, as most of these events tend to fill quickly.

If you are looking for a speaker for your company, symposium, or small group, please utilize the contact page.
